Congratulations to all in Bolden and Tara mines in their recent good news. An extension to the life of the mine has be assured through Boliden’s investment of over €33 million into underground exploration and upgrades to the tailings dam.
The mine which is situated just outside Navan Co Meath is Europe’s biggest and the ninth biggest zinc mine worldwide. From the initial processing of zinc in 1977 the Navan facility has mined over 80 million tonnes of ore. There are approximately 600 employees directly working at the mine this is not including contractors and support at Tara mines.
Mining this site for four decades shows the commitment of Boliden Mines, its employees and local business to get the job done and not give up when times are tough. The continued support of local business and government agencies cannot be under estimated. This dedication and belief in supporting jobs in the area has allowed the local economy grow, families to put down roots and Navan become a shining light for best practice across the entire mining community worldwide.
